Lebanon,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/general-news-429d1847080f4490b79a8c1a98004f9b\">Tennessee-based Cracker Barrel<\/a>, which has 660 restaurants\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/general-news-9f59baae36fe4c78a2d058e01d787319\">in 43 states<\/a>, made the change as part of a wider plan to modernize its restaurants and appeal to younger customers.<\/p>\n<p>The chain\u2019s sales have been slipping as it faces growing competition\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/egg-prices-restaurants-breakfast-637b1a2b067b51534719d6f95aa70208\">from breakfast chains<\/a>\u00a0and others. In its 2024 fiscal year, Cracker Barrel\u2019s same-store sales, or sales at locations open at least a year, dropped 0.1% despite a 4.9% increase in menu prices. Same-store retail sales at its shops fell 5.5%.<\/p>\n<p>But many\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/cracker-barrel-logo-612b12dc6ffc17e0dcf3ba2185ced81d\">protested the change<\/a>. On Monday, Cracker Barrel put out an apologetic statement, saying it \u201ccould have done a better job sharing who we are and who we\u2019ll always be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At that point, Cracker Barrel didn\u2019t say it would change the logo, but said it would listen to its customers and keep many of the things they have come to love about the restaurant, like the rocking chairs on its front porches. The company said it would continue to honor Uncle Herschel \u2014 the older man in its logo, who represents the uncle of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/general-news-42a9886bdb7642b4bc8e0680bc2c5300\">Cracker Barrel\u2019s founder<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 on its menu and on items sold in its stores.<\/p>\n<p>But the controversy continued. On Tuesday morning,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/matt-rosendale-jon-tester-montana-e3e97067d565956aeb4a99b02be193ec\">Trump<\/a>\u00a0said via Truth Social that Cracker Barrel \u201cshould go back to the old logo, admit a mistake based on customer response (the ultimate Poll), and manage the company better than ever before.\u201d Cracker Barrel\u2019s shares rose after more than a week of declines.<\/p>\n<p>By Tuesday evening, Cracker Barrel had made its decision and scrapped the new logo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Cracker Barrel, it\u2019s always been \u2013 and always will be \u2013 about serving up delicious food, warm welcomes, and the kind of country hospitality that feels like family,\u201d the company said. \u201cAs a proud American institution, our 70,000 hardworking employees look forward to welcoming you to our table soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump was among those celebrating the move.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood luck into the future.
