KANANASKIS, Alberta (AP) \u2014 U.S. President\u00a0Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0and British Prime Minister\u00a0Keir Starmer<\/a>\u00a0said Monday that they had signed a trade deal that will slash tariffs on U.K. auto and aerospace industry imports \u2014 but they are still discussing how to handle steel production.<\/p>\n

The pair spoke to reporters at the\u00a0Group of Seven summit<\/a>\u00a0in the Canadian Rockies, with Trump brandishing the pages of what he said was a long-awaited agreement. The rollout was anything but smooth, however, as Trump dropped the papers and at first said his administration had reached an agreement with the European Union when he meant the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n

The president nonetheless insisted the pact is \u201ca fair deal for both\u201d and would \u201cproduce a lot of jobs, a lot of income.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just signed it,\u201d Trump said, \u201cand it\u2019s done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Starmer said it meant \u201ca very good day for both our countries, a real sign of strength.\u201d<\/p>\n
